Congratulations to Maria Angela Franceschini, PhD, who was promoted to Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, effective Nov. 1, 2019.
Dr. Franceschini is a leader in the field of diffuse optical imaging, developing novel imaging methods to achieve a deeper understanding of the brain. Broadly, her activities center on the translation of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) imaging devices for use as monitors of brain health and function in a range of research, clinical and other settings: from studies of nutrition and brain growth in the developing world to monitoring cerebral blood perfusion during cardiac surgery. She is a Fellow of both the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and the Optical Society of America (OSA), a Distinguished Investigator of the Academy of Radiology Research, and President-Elect of the Society for Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy.
