The American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) has awarded Hsiao-Ying (Monica) Wey, PhD, an investigator in the MGH Martinos Center and assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, with a 2017 New Investigator Award in Alzheimer’s Disease.
The program is funded by The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation. Now in its eleventh year, it provides three early-career researchers with up to $100,000 each to conduct scientific investigations leading to improved methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. To date, the program has supported 52 Investigators at 38 institutions in the U.S. and Israel.
With the $100,000 New Investigator Award, Wey’s research will investigate epigenetic mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease with PET/MR imaging.
“It is an honor to join the community of New Investigators supported by AFAR and The Gilbert Foundation,” she says. “I’m committed to advancing Alzheimer’s research by contributing my expertise in multimodal neuroimaging and translational research. The funding and networking opportunities provided by this award strengthens the foundation of my research and allows me to apply novel imaging methods to investigate disease mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease in patients.”
