DESCRIPTION OF WORK / BIOSKETCH
I use spatiotemporal neuroimaging (combined fMRI/MEG/EEG) to investigate the functional modularity, attentional tuning properties, and short-term plasticity of human auditory cortex. Our recent results reveal task-dependent modulation of neuronal population tuning in the human auditory cortex "what" and "where" pathways by selective attention. Further, our work demonstrates differential post-stimulus inhibition in anterior and posterior auditory-cortex regions in humans, underlying pre-attentive gating of novel auditory information to consciousness.
I collaborate with the Laboratory of Computational Engineering at Helsinki University of Technology to investigate attentional modulation of human auditory system. In collaboration with University of Helsinki, the National Public Health Institute of Finland, Indiana University, and UCLA, we conduct twin studies on schizophrenia and adolescent alcohol abuse. With collaborators in Helsinki (Department of Psychology, Univ. Helsinki; Biomag Laboratory), I investigate neuropharmacological modulation of EEG/MEG, and neurocognitive changes in neurodegenerative diseases.
